Transborder action for the conservation of regional agrobiodiversity and valorisation of the identifiable product differentiation

The EU strategy to prevent the process of genetic erosion and the losses of biodiversity, including aprobiodiversity, is centered to applied approaches which facilitate the conservation and the sustainable use of biodiversity.

One of the negative repercussions of the intensive production methods introduced during the so called “green revolution” of the 60s is the irreversible losses of local varieties which had been adapted for centuries to local environments by developing genetic resistance and tolerance to adverse conditions.

The project aims to collect, to evaluate in terms of the agronomical, genetic (biochemical, biotechnological) and market point of view, to conserve, ex situ, and to promote the utilization of the appropriate genetic material by local farmers, in situ, in order to introduce products of specific origin.

Action frontalière pour la conservation de l’agrobiodiversité régionale et pour la valorisation d’une différentiation identifiable des produits

La stratégie de l’UE contre les processus d’érosion génetiqué de la biodiversité, l’agrobiodiversité faisant partie, se focalise sur des approches pratiques qui étayent la conservation et l’usage durable de la biodiversité.

Une des répercussions négatives de la production intensive introduite par ladite révolution verte “green revolution” des années soixante était la perte irréversible des variétés locales qui furent adaptées à travers de siécles aux environnements locaux en développant une résistance génétique face à des conditions climatiques adverses.

Le but de ce projet est la collection et l’évaluation agronomique et génétique du matériel végétal approprié, sa conservation ex situ et son utilisation in situ par des producteurs locaux en vue de production des produits d’origine spécifique.
